BUS SERVICES TO NORTH BEACH

Residents Seek Improvements

Extensions of bus services to the Ascot area, with 214 homes, and the Waimairi beach area, with 136 homes, were urged to the Christchurch Transport Board, yesterday by a deputation from the North New Brighton Residents’ Association.

Suggestions made by Mr F. R. Price were that the Wainoni road service should be extended and the present North Beach service should end at Bassetl street.

“Anybody who sees the rushes can understand why Canterbury ! has such good forwards,” said Mr 1 H. B. The chairman (Mr C. C. Hol-' land) said the board had not been! willing to look at the Ascot and, Waimairi services until the trolley buses were removed. The board could not help being impressed j by the problems at North Beach ! The requests were referred to! the works and traffic committee.. After reviewing the timetables for Saturdays and Sundays, the works and traffic committee re- ; ported that it found there was! insufficient lay-over time to make a North New Brighton and New, Brighton service link. It was not considered that the great deal oil expense involved was warranted i
