Worst Conditions For Years

Canterbury yachtsmen experienced the worst sailing conditions for several years when gale force winds and frequent wintry showers played havoc with club races yesterday Eleven yachts from four clubs participated in various races. Of this number, nine capsized.

Reports received from club officials are as follows:

Waima’’ariri.-—All races were postponed These included the Aotearoa Cup (first heat) and the Kesteven Cun for power-boats (first heat) This club is now three days behind schedule On Saturday, during the Joe Bierman Cup contest a buoy was caught by the current and drifted out towards the sea It was retrieved bv the pick-up launch on the bar This trophy will be competed for at a later date.

Christchurch.—At the Canterbury Yachting Association's meeting tomorrow evening, a decision will be made as to whether the Burgesses trophy race will be re-run Of the four yachts that started, three capsized and one finished the wrong course.
