Raffling Of Land

Unencumbered freehold land, provided its capital value does not exceed certain specified figures, may now be given to local, provincial, and national organisations for raffles, according to an amendment to section 42 of the Gaming Act, 1908, published in the Gazette.

The capital valuations, as assessed by the Valuer-General, shall not exceed £250 in the case of land given to a local organisation for disposal by raffle; £5OO in the case of land given to a provincial organisation; and £750 in the case of land given to a national organisation. The amendment to the section of the Gaming Act also provides that where a clear title to the land cannot be given within three months from the date of the drawing of the raffle, a cash equivalent of the value of the land shall be available.
