TEACHERS OF SPEECH

Year’s Activities Reviewed

The year had been a successful one in every respect, said the president (Miss N. Hooper) presenting her report to the annual meeting of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Association of Teachers of Speech and Drama recently. Two projects—a lecture course conducted by Mr C. Spear for students and teachers interested in the higher Trinity College examination syllabus and a oneday festival of spoken poetry—had both been highly successful, said Miss Hooper. At a function held after the recent examination, Mrs G. Douglas, an examiner in speech of the Trinity College of Music, London, commented favourably on the improved standard of speech work in New Zealand since she had visited the country three years previously, Miss Hooper said. The following officers were elected: president, Mrs Janet Coote; secretary, Mrs Evelyn Wilkins; treasurer, Mr Allan de Malmanche; committee, Misses N. Hooper, M. Hopwell, A. Solly, and Mrs D. Hunt.
