PORT AUTHORITIES TO CONFER

Three Overseas Visitors

Three overseas dock and ha’bours representatives will he among the 56 delegates to attend the annual conference this month in Christchurch of the Harbours Association of New Zealand. The conference will be b°ld from October 22 to October 25 The Docks and Harbours Authorities of Great Britain will be represented by Messrs Herbert R. Young and W. C. Perkins Both have their headquarters in Sydney as representatives for authorities in Australia and New Zealand. Mr Young represents the Port of Liverpool and Mr Perkins represents the Port of London. Mr J. Spencer Nall, chairman of the Geelong Harbour Trust Commissioners, will represent the Australian Harbour Authorities Association. The executive officers of boards will meet on October 22 and the opened the next morning by the main conference will be officially Minister of Marine (Mr R. G. Gerard). A welcome to Christchurch will be extended by the Mayor (Mr R. M. Macfarlane. M.P.). The conference president is Sit- William Appleton, chairman of the Wellington Harbour Board, and the secretary is Mr JR. E. Dawson, who visited Christchurch this week to complete arrangements. The agenda is not yet complete. The development of port facilities will be discussed and the delegates from Bluff board are expected to produce evidence on experiments to introduce allweather loading facilities. On Thursday, October 24, delegates and their wives will be taken on a “round the gorges” tour as guests of the Lyttelton

board and will be the guests of the Rangiora County and Borough Councils at morning tea.
