BREVET CLUB BALL

The Christchurch branch of the Brevet Club held its annual Battle of Britain ball last evening in the Winter Garden. About 300 attended. _ , ... Palm leaves and red japonica brightened the lounge, and the supper tables were gay with Iceland poppies and greenery. Guests were received in the foyer by the president of the club (Mr L. J. Turner) and Mrs Turner# Specially invited guests were the patron of the club (Sir Robert Clark-Hall) and Lady Clark-Hall, Sir Joseph Ward and Lady Ward, Group Captain T. J. de Lange and Mrs de Lange; Squadron Leader L. McLean and Mrs McLean; Mr A. Farrar, the president of the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association, and Mrs Farrar. Mrs L. J. Turner, wife of the president, wore silver grey brocade patterned in pale pink and a green moss rose design, a silver satin ribbon outlining the Empire bodice and falling from a boifr in front to the hem of the skirt, which was straight fitting in front with a very full back falling from tucks,, and narrow shoulder straps. Mrs L. V. Etwell, wife of the secretary of the club, wore a waltz length gown of black nylon net with tight-fitting bodice heavily sequined in gold. The committee responsible for the function was Messrs L. J. Turner, R. McKenzie, L. Murray. D. Bowles, B. Nicholas, T. Caldwell, R. Harrison, B. Baty, F Adams, J. Cockle, L. Woodward, and L. V. Elwell.
