UNDER-20 MATCH
Canterbury Beats Mid-Canterbury The Canterbury Under-20 representative team completely outclassed a Mid-Canterbury team in the early game at Lancaster Park on Saturday to win by 17 points (a goal from a try and three tries and a penalty goal) to 3 (a penalty goal). Canterbury enjoyed a territorial advantage practically throughout, and with M. Allan winning the ball well in lineouts through some high jumping, a very speedy and hardrunning backline was given many opportunities. Other outstanding forwards were K. Mcßride, P. D. Hill, O. Stopforth and B. Smither, and in the Mid-Canterbury . pack K. Lowe, J. Small, and A. Lysaght played hard. P. Gregg, at first five-eighths, yas the best of all the backs; he scored his try after a spectacular run of 80 yards. The three-quarter line of B. Robertson, D. Denton, and J. Morrissey was much too good for their opposition. G. R. D. Jamieson, at full-back, was very sound until he left the field injured. For Mid-Canterbury D. Todd saved many tries with hard tackling and good handling, and R. Currie, although having little chance on attack, tackled well. For Canterbury, Mcßride, Gregg, Morrissey, and Robertson scored tries, one of which was converted by Jamieson, who also kicked a penalty goal. D. Patterson kicked a penalty goal for MicJ-Canterbury. Mr R. E. G. Cameron was referee.
