MOONEE VALLEY DEMONSTRATION

Apprentice Beaten On Tirage

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Sept. 1. Angry punters staged one of the most hostile demonstrations seen on an Australian course in recent years when the 17-year-old apprentice jockey, Brian Pulbrook, lost the First Ailsa Handicap on the 5 to 4 favourite Tirage at Moonee Valley yesterday. After questioning Pulbrook, stewards suspended him for a month for having ridden the New Zealandbred Tirage carelessly. Tirage led by six lengths around the home turn, and with only a little more than a furlong to run down the short straight, looked sure to win.

Tirage was still more than three lengths in front at the furlong post. Pulbrook then dropped his hands and allowed the filly to coast. He tried to get Tirage going again a few yards from the line, but it was too late, and he was beaten by a neck by Miss Tippette. Punters ran to the rails from all sections of the course and shouted and shook their fists at Pulbrook. Another of Mr W. R.
