(Rec. 9 p m.) LONDON, Aug. 31. Sheffield Wednesday, after an influenza epidemic had kept its players out of 1957 football until today, lost 1-2 at home to Nottingham Forest. Forest is now unbeaten in three games, one in mid-week, since its promotion to the first division this season. Gil Merrick, the England and Birmingham goalkeeper, was carried semi-conscious from the field after colliding with a Chelsea player four minutes after the kick-off. In his absence, Chelsea scored five goals in 40 minutes, gnd won 5-1.
