British Missile Destroyer

Britain’s first guided missile destroyer will be built at the Cammell Laird shipyard at Birkenhead, the First Lord of the Admiralty (Lord Selkirk) announced yesterday. He was speaking at the handingover ceremony of the British cruiser Nigeria, renamed Mysore, to the Indian Government. . Referring to the advent of nuclear power and the consequent changes in shipbuilding technique, Lord Selkirk said that these changes could not take place overnight. Later, the Permanent Secretary to the Admiralty (Sir John Lang) said that no details or further information were available about the Royal Navy’s guided missile destroyer.
