Fire Protection In Aircraft
(2V.Z. Press Z.ssoctatton—Copyright) LONDON, August 31. A new device which removes the fuel fire hazard in aircraft has been developed by a British firm. The principle used is that if there is enough nitrogen gas in the air in a fuel tank it will prevent the oxygen from feeding a fire. Fuel tanks are pressured with air from the engines and the nitrogen fed in from a container where it is in liquid form. The heat of the air from the compressor vaporises the nitrogen.
