WHIPPET RACING ON SUNDAY
Council Warning To \ Club
After complaints from residents that a nuisance is caused by whipret racing in Curries road on Saturdays and Sundays, the Heathcote County- Council is to inform the New Zealand Whippet Racing Club that Sunday meetings should not be held without the permission of the council. The county clerk (Mr R. W. Morris) said at a meeting of the council that he was told by the club that the public were admitted free to the meetings and no betting was permitted. According to the complaint the meetings caused much disturbance and noise and the residents were allowed no free week-end.
The chairman (Mr F. W. Freeman) said the club’s activities were not in the best of any residential area and the club should be told that it was acting without the local authority’s permission.
