Fine Stand Of 143 By Cowdrey
(N.Z Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) HASTINGS, Aug. 31. A brilliant stand of 143 by Colin Cowdrey helped the L. E. G. Ames Eleven to reach a commanding first innings total of nine for 322 declared against the West Indies today. By stumps, the West Indies were none for 44 in reply. Cowdrey, going in when the side was two for 29, took command of the situation, sharing partnerships with Dewes (24) (63 runs in 65 minutes) and the South Australian, Bruce Dooland (50) (88 runs in 46 minutes).
Cowdrey, who/batted 190 minutes, hit 16 fours before being run out. It was his third century this season against the tourists. Scores were:— • L. E. G. AMES XI First Innings J. George Tribe, the Northampton-, shire all-rounder, completed a 1000 runs and 100 wickets double for the sixth consecutive time yesterday. He equalled the county record of V. W C. Jupp, who did it 10 times, but four times with Sussex. Tribe, needing 19 for his 1000, was 33 not out at stumps ’in the match against Hampshire. He ,took five for 50 in Hampshire’s second innings. Bruce Dooland, also of Australia, said farewell to English county cricket with an innings of 70 it> 90 minutes for in the- ( match /against Gloucestershire. Dooland Will leave for Adelaide on October 10. He completed the double 1 last week.
