U.N. Membership Sought
(Rec. 9 pjn.l NEW YORK, Sept. 1. The Federation of Malaya, which yesterday became an independent member of the British Commonwealth, immediately applied for United Nations membership. Malaya's new Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman, who is also the Foreign Minister, sent a telegram to the SecretaryGeneral of the United Nations, Mr Dag HammarskjOld askiqg him to submit Malaya's application for admission to the next meeting of the Security CouneiL
