Swimming Fendalton Club Officers
In the first year of its reaffiliation with the Canterbury Amateur Swimming Centre, the Fendalton club had a successful record in competitive swimming, the president (Mr J. R. Pirie) reported to the annual meeting of the club recently. A large number of places had been gained in inter-club swimming, and three members, Paul Schmidt, Derek Staples, and Stephen Schmidt, had won Canterbury titles, said Mr Pirie. These successes were largely a result of the work of Mrs M. I. Kavanagh, who had coached the swimmers.
The club captain, Mr K. W. Staples, announced that plans had been prepared for a new block of dressing sheds for women members, and it was hoped that the sheds would be corfipletdd before the season opened. Officers elected were:—Patron, Mr P, R. Willberg; president. Mr Ivan Johnson: vice-presidents, Messrs A. Smart and R. Fields; honorary secretary, Mrs R. Shelton: honorary treasurer, Mr A. M. Caughley; registrar, Mrs B. Copp: delegates to centre, Mrs M. I Kavanagh, Mr M. Gardiner, and Mrs M. Gardiner; club captain. Mr K. W. Staples: deputy club-captain, Mr M. Gardiner; women’s committee, Mesdames B. Copp, W. Hawke, C. Badman, R. Bullivant. N. Rookes, J. R. Pirie, M. Sheard, and C. Latimer; men’s committee, Messrs S. M. McKinley, R. O. Schmidt. J. R.
