French Success In Algiers
ALGIERS. August SO. French military authorities in Algiers claimed last night to have forestalled a campaign of bomb and fire attacks in Algiers and to have virtually wiped out the insurgent leadership in the city. Spokesmen for the Army and the security services said the Algiers Organisation of the National Liberation Front, the main terrorist leadership in Algiers, had been almost entirely dismantled. Two out of three military chiefs and two out of three political chiefs were in French hands, and Debih Cherifin, a leading insurgent “political commissar 1 ' had been killed on Monday in the Casbab.
Record Oil Output
• Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON. Aug..2o. British and associated Dutch oil companies last year produced a record total of 125,220,000 metric tons of oil. including natural gasoline, according to figures published By the Petroleum Information Bureau today. This was an increase of about 7m tons on corresponding production in 1055.
