CLOTHING SENT TO POLAND
C.0.R.5.0. Help For Repatriates
Eight bales of clothing and eight cases of footwear were recently sent to Europe by the New Zealand Council of Organisations for Relief Service Overseas, at the request of the New Zealand branch of the Polish Ex-Comba-tants’ Association. The clothing will be given to some of the 40,000 Poles repatriated to Poland from Russian labour camps during the last six months. A letter to C.0.R.5.0. from the association in London, says: “We can assure you that this gift will be immediately forwarded to Cardinal Wyszynski in Poland for distribution among the most needv of the repatriates.” When approaching C.0.R.5.0. on behalf of the repatriates, the New Zealand branch of the association wrote: “They possess nothing save the clothes they stand in, and are unable to improve their miserable lot because they are without work. It is expected that, eventually, roughly 200.000 Poles will be returned to Poland, which is unable to fully support them.” C.0.R.5.0. hopes that large shipments will be sent, but this depends largely on the public response to its clothing appeals in ■ September.
