Varied Topics For Debate
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 20. European free trade, German reunification, tlie hydrogen bomb, and China’s admission to the United Nations are among controversial international questions to be discussed by the Trades Union Congress at its conference next month. The annual conference of the 1000 T.U.C. delegates, representing some 8,000,000 trade unionists, will take place at Blackpool, Lancashire, from September 2 to September 6.
The conference agenda, published today, lists 77 resolutions for discussion. They range in subject from European security to the tapping of private telephone conversations.
Five resolutions on the hydrogen bomb, each calling for ap end to tests, dominate the International issues. The Chemical Workers’ Union has tabled an amendment urging a United Nations inquiry into the health hazards arising from radioactivity caused by bomb tests.
The National Union of Furniture Trade Operatives has sponsored a resolution urging that China should be invited to join the United Nations “and take part in the task of building world peace.”
