Site For Courts May Be Bought A property in Conference street, the purchase of which has been investigated as a possible site for two squash courts, was considered the ipost suitable and central site available by the committee of the newlyformed Christchurch Squash Rackets Club. The committee was permitted to exercise the option it had received over the property, circumstances permitting, at the meeting of the club this week. Finance for the scheme was discussed, and the possibility of a first mortgage will be investigated by the committee. A motion was carried that the option on the property be exercised under no circumstances un* less finance is covered to the extent of £3500 by signed membership and debenture and/or mortgages. A recommendation was made to the committee that each member of the club take or sell three £lO debentures. The target sei was £6OOO, and. already about £2200 was in hand; said the chairman (Mr M. O. Holdsworth). About £l5OO would have to be raised tn the next two weeks if the option was to be exercised. The membership of the club stands at more than 100 members at present and has increased rapidly to that figure in the last few weeks. A recommendation to the committee was passed at the meeting that the membership of the club be up to 150 male members, subject to the courts being erected. An amendment suggesting that the minimum membership be 150 and the maximum 200. was defeated. Mr Holdsworth said that no membership drive had been made at any stage so far. "We have not yet 150 members,” said Mr Holdsworth, "but the committee considers membership no problem.”
