Roualt’s Paintings
Sir,—it seems unfortunate that, when, an opportunity to Inject a little life into the “artistic climate” of Christchurch is* offered, it is met with apathy. No reason is given for - the Society of Arts’ decision not to show the exhibition of Roualt prints, and to the present writer no reason seems conceivable. The influence of George Roualt on contemporary European painting is considerable, and the -chance to exhibit some of "his work" cannot justifiably be denied. If colonial bigotry towards art in this city is to be maintained the society’s refusal was a wise step.—Yours, etc.
HAMISH KEITH. August 2, 1957.
