Sir,—T. Shaw, a contemporary of the H-bomb, seems to think in terms of the club ape to which we may return, thanks to the deterrents. Evolution seems to have by-passed some people. Actually modern war is large scale cannibalism organised by the State under the hammer and sickle or stars and stripes. It must be abolished not only for moral and ethical reasons, but also on practical grounds. Preparation of mind and body for war must be

resisted and replaced by training for peaceful living on the international level, and all this implies. Alfhough many things will have to go because of such a change, the world will be richer.
