MR A. W. V. KING

Alfred William Vernon King, manager and editor of the Australian Associated Press in New York and New York editor of Reuters, died today at the age of 60

Born at Dulwich Hill, New" South Wales, in 1897, Mr King joined the literary staff of the ‘Sydney Morning Herald” in 1915 and spent about 25 years of his areer with that newspaper. Also in 1915, he en'isted and served with the Australian expeditionary forces in France. He was discharged at the end of the war with the rank of lieutenant.

He returned to the “Sydney Morning Herald” after the war and from 1928 to 1931 and again from 1941 to April, 1944 he was that newspaper*‘s London correspondent. He was then appointed London manager and editor of the Australian Associated Press.

Mr King did not spare himself in seeking news during World War II and his reports were considered outstanding—particularly one about a bombing raid on Berlin. He flew in one of the planes during the raid. In 1948 he was appointed joint assistant editor of Reuters. He came to New York in August, 1949, to head the combined A.A.P.Reuter’s New York office.

MR H. R. BISS (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 4. A prominent Wellington lawyer, Mr Hugh Roland Biss, died at his home last night. He was 65. Mr Biss was senior partner in Messrs Biss. Cooper, and Shires, and was a former president of the Wellington District Law Society. He is survived by his wife and one son.
