Plunket Appeals

Sir, —I took an official part in handling subscriptions for the Plunket radio appeal and I wish to express my dissatisfaction with ; the way it was handled by 3ZB It was most disappointing to hear lists badly read, much delayed and in some cases no initials or amounts called. Some of the loca! announcers wasted valuable time by what I can only describe as exhibitions of inanity. The apj peal was taken seriously in the country districts, and I maintain it should have been taken equally seriously by the announcers.— Yours, etc., METHVEN TREASURER. May 16, 1957. White!, to whom this letter was referred said: ‘Although I can understand Methven Treasurer’s’ disappointment at the delay in an - nouncing some of the donations. I am sure his view of the broadcasters, as a whole, will not be shared by the . majority of listeners. The announcers did a splendid job in most difficult circumstances as they were under

constant pressure throughout the six hours of the broadcast. Some of the announcers had been' on duty from 6 a.m. in the morning and another had voluntarily given up the time during his annual holidays. A completely serious announcement of names and amounts would have proved a very drab programme, and a little natural life given by the announcers was, I feel sure, appreciated by most listeners. The excellent efforts by the Methven organisers and the organisers of other country districts has been much appreciated.”]
