Coroner’s Court FATAL FALL FROM TRUCK DECK

,Yaldhurst Road Collision

Inquests held before the Coroner (Mr E. B. Taylor) yesterday into the deaths of Eileen Patricia Jacobs, aged 27. and George Robinson Jacobs, aged 27, who were killed in a collision between a truck and a car at the intersection of Yaldhurst and Carmen roads on December Z>, were adjourned sine die. Evidence of the driver of the car which struck the truck Peter James Barnett) is being taken in Balclutha. The driver of the truck. Raymond Arthur Blackwell, said that he was travelling west along Yaldhurst road and when the left rear wheel of the truck was struck by Barnett’s car. Mr and Mrs Jacobs, who were sitting with 2 children on the deck of the truck, fell off the deck on to the road. Corroborative evidence was given by a passenger in the cab of the truck and an eyewitness. Dr. C. T. B. Pearson, a pathologist, said that from his postmorten examinations of the dead persons he considered that the death of George Jacobs was due to cerebral' oedema, and that of his wife to cerebral oedema and cerebral hemorrhage. OTHER VERDICTS

Neville John Cattermole. aged eight, who died after riding his bicycle into a parked car m Emmett street on March 8. was found to have died of a fractured dislocation of the spine. The evidence of witnesses showed that the accident occurred before the hours of darkness.

The death of William Dawson Boyce, aged 55, on December 26. was found to have been caused by secondary shock due to burns. The bums were suffered when the house in which he was sleeping at Sefton caught fire. Carolyn Ann Bennett aced eight was found to have died of axphyxia when she was accidentally drowned in Lake Bryndwr on February 3. The child’s mother. Mrs Nola Laurette Bennett said the child had been paddling in the lake in water that only reached to her knees when she had fallen into a hole. A verdict of suicide by poisoning was given in the inquest into the death on March 7 of Ivy Letitia Adeline Scarlett aged 34.
