STRANGE FOSTER PARENTSHIP

Four Australian lambs and a Jersey cow have apparently learned each other’s language on a property at Black Mountain, near Armidale, on the northern tablelands of New South Wales. The cow has mothered the lambs and is feeding them regularly. This strange foster parentship was first discovered when the owner of the property found that the cow’s milk supply was irregular. Then he found that two pet lambs were being fed by the cow, and not long after two more orphan lambs were accommodated. Now the lambs have got so used to their foster mother that they call her when they are hungry, and if the cow thinks they are going to miss a meal, she calls them.
