RIVERTON CUP PROSPECTS

Rhythmonic In Favour "The Press” Special Service INVERCARGILL, April 19. Indications are for fine weather for the opening of the Riverton Racing Club’s Easter carnival tomorrow. The track will be cutting up, but will provide first-class autumn going: The Riverton Cup, main event on the card, has drawn one of the best fields in recent years, and the issue looks unusually open. Rhythmonic, Good Abbot, and Pilot Light are among the early favourites. Treasure Pond and Ocean Flight have been withdrawn, and Obelisk is a doubtful runner.

Culton will not start in the Great Steeplechase, which will be reduced to seven runners. Capet and last year’s winner, The Tongs, will be the favourites. Low Bridge, the early favourite for the Waiau Steeplechase, is a doubtful starter, and Test Flight and Silver Simper are also unlikely to start. Royal Mail will be missing from this field in favour of the Pourakino Handicap. Gypsy Boy has been withdrawn from the Waiau Steeples. Lyndel’s Choice has been scratched from the Longford Handicap, in which Bright Race will be missing from the first division. Bustler has been withdrawn from the Trial Handicap. In the second division of the Trial Handicap the starter is King’s Music, not King’s Plume, as was sent previously in the acceptances in a Press Association message.
