Trade Unions ' Protest

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 19.

A total of 65,000 trade unionists in Auckland, whose unions are affiliated with the Federation of Labour, are to be asked to sign a petition calling for the immediate cessation of the use of all weapons for war purposes. This decision was made by the Auckland District Council of the' Federation of Labour last night. The petition has been given urgency. When completed, it will go to the Prime Minister (Mr Holland), who will be urged to instruct New Zealand’s representative at United Nations (Sir Leslie Munro) to call for the banning of nuclear war weapons. “This is not a Communistinspired move, but one that emanates from the hearts of all rightthinking people,” said the president of the council (Mr T. E. Skinner) today.
