Contraband Hidden On Children

(N.Z. Press Association Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) MELBOURNE, April 17. Customs officers found hundreds of pounds worth of contraband goods hidden on five young children from a migrant ship as they landed at Station Pier yesterday. Three of the children, boys aged 14, nine, and five years, with their mother and a man accompanying her, were found with 11 18-carat gold bracelets wrapped around their limbs.

Two other four-year-old boys were found with eight bottles of liqueur essence sown into their clothes. Last night a senior Customs official said it was one of the biggest hauls of contraband made in Melbourne for some years.
