Former Indonesian Minister Fined

The Indonesian Supreme Court today fined the former Foreign Minister, Ruslan Abdulgani, 5000 rupiahs, in default one month’s gaol, for offences against the country’s foreign exchange regulations. Abdulgani was found guilty of violating a foreign exchange ordinance by ‘‘unintentionally taking foreign currency, valuable documents and papers abroad in his capacity as a Government servant without the consent of the Foreign Exchange Institute.” Abdulgani, who pleaded not guilty, said he had taken an envelope containing American dollars to the United States for a friend last year.
