Lord Bridgeman’s Visit
A former director-general of the British Home Guard and Territorial Army,. Viscount Bridgeman, will arrive in Christchurch tomorrow to begin a two-week business visit to the Dominion. Viscount Bridgeman is a director of the Australia and New Zealand Bank.'
Lord Bridgeman was educated at Eton College, and during the First World, War served in France as a rifle company officer. In 1918
he became private secretary to his father, the first Viscount, when he was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Labour.
In 1932 he was appointed brigade major of the 7th Infantry Brigade, and in 1935 took up a post as G. 5.0.2 at the War Office. Lord Bridgeman was recalled to service on the outbreak of the Second World War, and served until 1945. He was awarded *the Distinguished Service Order for his work as Director-General of the Home Guard and Territorial Army between 1941 and 1944. He relinquished his post as DirectorGeneral to take an appointment as Deputy-Adjutant-General of the Army and retired a year later. During Lord Bridgeman’s visit to New Zealand he will visit Wellington and Auckland and centres in North Auckland. He will t>e met on his arrival in Christchurch by Mr C. P. Edwards, chief manager of the A.N.Z. Bank in New Zealand.
