TV INTRODUCTION MAY BE DELAYED
(From Our Own Reporter)
WELLINGTON, March 19.
The Cabinet is believed to have decided to defer for several years the introduction of television into New Zealand.
Questioned about this tonight, the Prime Minister (Mr Holland) said: “We have discussed television—but not for six or seven hours.” He added that a statement would be made soon by the Minister in charge of Broadcasting (Mr R. M. Algie).
Before the Cabinet was a special report on television prepared by the Director of Broadcasting (Mr W. Yates), who visited Australia last November to study the working of television there.
