Middle East Aid By U.S.
(Rec. 11 p.m.) WASHINGTON. March 2. The Senate today rejected an amendment to President Eisenhower's Middle East resolution which would have taken away the President's power to spend up to 200 million dollars in aid in the area. The President said in a message to the Senate, read by the Republican Senate leader. Senator William Knowland before the crucial vote, that he feared that the adoption of the amendment would be interpreted abroad as an indication that the United States wanted to wage peace only in the terms of war.
