ISRAEL DEFERS DECISION
“Reconsideration By Cabinet” (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) JERUSALEM, March 2. The Israeli Cabinet will decide finally tomorrow on whether to withdraw Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip and the Gulf of Aqaba, a Foreign Ministry spokesman announced here today. The spokesman said that the Cabinet would meet again at 10 a.in. local time to ‘take the final decision, one way or another.” The announcement came after an inconclusive emergency session of the Cabinet, to reconsider Israel s withdrawal decision announced in the United Nations General Assembly yesterday. The spokesman said that the Israeli Prime Minister, Mr David Ben-Gurion, expected to have received by tomorrow morning “clarifications” of the United States stand on the Israeli withdrawal. Diplomatic quarters at Jerusalem believed that the Israeli Ambassador at Washington, Mr Abba Eban, was seeking the clarification of a statement by the United States delegate to the United Nations, made yesterday, on the role of the United Nations Emergency Force in Gaza. This statement is reported to fall short of the minimum Israeli demands before Israeli troops are withdrawn.
