ROYAL SOCIETY OF N.Z.
DRIVE FOR NEW MEMBERS A drive for new members is being made by the Canterbury branch of the Royal Society of N?w Zealand this year. It emphasises that academic qualification is science is not necessary for membership. To encourage new members who have interests in science this year’s programme will be of a semi-popular nature, with addresses on a wide field likely to be informative to laymen.
The presidential address will be given next Wednesday evening by Mr B. W. Collins, District Geologist of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. He will speak on “water divining —old and new,” recalling old controversies and demonstrating modern instruments for detecting underground streams. Recent field work will be illustrated by coloured slides.
