NEW POOL AT CLARKVILLE
OFFICIAL OPENING A learners’ swimming pool, which has obviated the need for trips to Kaiapoi and other places, was officially opened at the Clarkville School by Mr F. T. Ager, a northern ward representative on the Canterbury Education Board. The pool was in use last season: but it has been improved by the addition of dressing accommodation and fencing, and the ceremony was arranged to enable all supporters to see the pool. Local residents raised funds which, with the Government’s subsidy, enabled work to be put in hand promptly. Such schools as Clarkville have been handicapped by the lack nf swimming facilities, and last vear three in the area had a whole week of swimming with daily trips to Swannanoa. A large number of pupils learned to swim, and the interest aroused has carried over to the new pool at Clarkville. The 52 pupils now have regular lessons.
