WELSH SEAT TO LABOUR
(Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, March 2. The Labour Party took the Carmarthen, Wales, Parliamentary seat from the Liberal Pai ty in yesterday’s by-election. This was another blow for the Conservative Government, although the Conservatives did not contest the seat, after Labour increased its majority in the Wednesbury byelection. on Thursday. The Liberal Party now has only five seats in the House of Commons. Carmarthen, formerly a Liberal stronghold, was won by Lady Megan Lloyd George, a convert to Labour who used to be a leading Liberal. Government supporters regard the result as a gloomy portent for five more by-elections to be held soon. All are in Conservative strongholds where the Government is in little danger of losing a seat. The Labour Party, after today, is certain that it will slash the Government's majorities, and claims that this will be further proof that the public have lost sympathy with the present administration. Britannia’s Atlantic Trips.Britain's prop-jet Bristol Britannia —which will start flying the London-Sydney route tomorrow —is likely to go into service on the North Atlantic air route this summer—six months i ahead of schedule, the “Daily Express” said.—London, March 2.
