CASES HEARD IN JANUARY

During the month of January, Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M., and his Court associates, Mrs T. Green and Mr W. C. Colee, dealt with the following cases in the Children’s Court: — Two 16-year-old youths, charged with setting off fireworks in a public place, were admonished and discharged. They were each ordered to pay 4s 6d restitution. A 15-year-old boy appearing on a similar charge was admonished and discharged. ' Charged with being found on enclosed premises without lawful excuse a 17-year-old youth was admonished and discharged. Two of three boys aged from 14 to 16 were placed under supervision for a year for the conversion of a motor-car. The third boy, who was already under supervision, had his term of supervision extended for a further 12 months. Each boy was ordered to pay £4 3s 4d by way of restitution. Two years’ supervision was ordered for a 15-year-old boy appearing on a charge of breaking, entering and theft. For receiving stolen property a 16-year-old youth was admonished and discharged. A boy aged 11 years appeared, charged with theft on three occasions. He was admonished and discharged. Two shoplifters aged 10 and 11 years were charged with theft. They were admonished and discharged. A 16-year-old girl charged with theft, and appearing on a complaint that she was not under proper control, was committed to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare. A 13-year-old boy who threw a missile in a public place appeared on this charge, and on a charge of assault. He was admonished and discharged. On a charge of theft a 14-year-old girl was committed to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare. An 11-year-old girl, on a charge of theft, was admonished and discharged. A 15-year-old boy, charged with shopbreaking, theft, attempted shopbreaking with intent, and the unlawful conversion of a motorcycle on two occasions, was committed to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare. The boy was ordered to make restitution of £lO 16s 6d. A companion, aged 15, charged with shopbreaking and theft, was also committed to the care of the Superintendent, and ordered to pay £ll 10s restitution. Four traffic offenders appeared in Court. For failing to give way a 15-year-old boy was convicted and fined £2, and a 16-year-old boy was admonished and discharged. A charge of not having a driver’s licence was dismissed. A 16-year-old youth, charged with using a motor-vehicle without due care and attention, was convicted and fined 10s. Witnesses’ expenses .were £1 10s. Another 16-year-old youth, charged with driving without due care and attention, was admonished and discharged.
