CHINESE-SOVIET RELATIONS

Sir, —In Wednesday’s issue, “R.H.” writes, “The Soviet Union is the most resolute standardbearer against war and colonialism and the strongest bulwark of world peace.” If “R.H.” would read “Empire of Fear,” written by the Petrovs, he would not write such piffle. Russia is worse than any capitalist country, with countless millions scarcely existing on the barest necessities, while a privileged few have plenty of the best available from special shops which the ordinary people cannot patronise. Vladimir Petrov visited his old farm home after years of Soviet rule, and, like thousands of others, it was a mass of weeds, and not producing anything, because the Government demanded so much of the crops that there was not enough left for food or seed. As for colonialism, the Soviet has already taken over about 15 countries, and aims to take over and rule the rest ol the world.—Yours, etc., F. W. STEVENS. January 17. 1957.
