Big Increase In Demand (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 17. A tremendous increase in the demand for oil tankers was th® outstanding feature of the ship, building world at present, said Major-General C. A. L. Dunphie, chairman of directors of VickersArmstrongs, in Wellington today. The accent was on bigger and faster tankers, he said. Unlike other cargo vessels, Gen. eral Dunphie explained, there was little economic limit to the size of a tanker, as long as it was fast Asked about the companyi future plans in building for commercial airlines, following the tremendous success of the Vis. count, General Dunphie said the firm would stick to developing and building aircraft for the medium-range and medium to long-range routes, without bothering about trans-Atlantic or short hop feeder types. The travelling public was growing so fast that there was plenty of room for ships as well as planes “for a long time to come”—for 20 years at least.
