WIN FOR COUNT RENALDO Minor Events At Greymouth

Count Renaldo won his second race at the meeting when he outclassed his opponents in the Dominion Handicap at Greymouth on Saturday. He broke at the start but did not lose much ground. He was taken to the lead at the end of just over a furlong and was not afterwards headed. He was followed at length intervals with one mile to run by Punakai and Caprice, with Reticent. Palmar e. By Pass and Night Owl close up. Count Renaldo was two lengths in front of Reticent racing to the straight, with the tiring Caprice next, ahead of Punakai. Count Renaldo did not -look like being caught, and he won easing up by six lengths. Reticent was a good way back most of the way, but finished on boldly for second without appearing likely to trouble the winner. Caprice tired badly over the last half-mile and was beaten off third, ahead of Punakai, which held off By Pass by a neck for fourth. Palmarie and Night Owl were a long way back next.

Young Drivers’ Race Although he broke badly in the first furlong, Technician finished on too well for his rivals in the Railway Handicap, a race for probationary drivers. Tony’s Cobber worked clear in the straight with five furlongs to run, but his driver apparently mistook the number of rounds and he eased up entering the back straight. He got him going again and turned for home behind Rene Lou and Technician, with Weekender the only other prospect. Technician continued his run and took over e -ly in the run home. He responded gamely for a three-year-old and won by half a length. Weekender, which \ as well back most of the way, made up ground for second, three lengths in front of the hot favourite, Rene Lou. Tony’s Cobber was a ength a.id a half back fourth, clear of Disraeli and Brittania. The last-named broke with two furlongs to run when in the lead. Four On End Crisette won her fourth race on the West Coast holiday circuit when she had a narrow but decisive win over the speedy Composite in the Runanga Handicap. Crisette beg n well from 72 yards, and gradually made up her handicap. She began to move up with three furlongs to run, being forced out by Composite. Crisette and Composite were in front turning for home, where they were followed by Buller’s Pride, which broke. Spotless, which broke *oon after straightening up. and Superway. Composite made a bold effort to hold off Crisette. but A. M. Purdon's representative always looked to have the race in safe keeping r.nd won comfortably by a long head. Composite’s effort was a sound one as he lost ground in the running Front Rank, which was well back most of the way. made up ground for third, ahead of Superway, which was one of the leaders all the way. She broke near the straight entrance. Buller’s Pride was fifth, ahead of Zephyr Lass and Sharp Note. Easy for Solemnity Solemnity moved up to take the lead racing to the straight in the New Year Handicap, and he came on to gain a very easy ano overdue win Gay Alabama made the pace, but Solemnity took over with a furlong and a half to run. They were followed into the straight by Chartruese. Quare Times and Kawa. with Helen Patch making up ground further back. Solemnity did not look like being caught and he won *ith a lot in hand by six lengths.

Gay Alabama did not look like losing second place in the straight, and she was three lengths in front of Helen Patch, which got up in time to dead- heat for third with Kawa. which had every chance. Helen Patch was a good way back for most of the race, and she did well to finish so close up. Chartruese did not run on and was well beaten in fifth place, ahead of
