FINAL DAY AT STRATFORD

DRUMAWHEY WINS NARROWLY

(New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. 6. A very close second to Muscille in the Stratford Gold Cup last Tuesday, the Te Rapa four-year-old Drumawhey confirmed this good showing with a narrow win from Omalass in the Malone Memorial Handicap, the first leg of the double on the final day of the Stratford Racing Club’s summer meeting on Saturday. The second leg, the Ngaere Handicap, was won by Wee Durham from Manaia, who also succeeded at New Plymouth. The double return for £1 was £72 10s. The racing was held in warm, overcast weather, and the track was firm.

The totalisator on-course handled £58,094 10s, compared with £44,515 10s on the second day last year. The total for the meeting was £115,141, compared with £104,396 10s last year.

Lady Yet was a late scratching from the Malone Memorial Handicap. The judicial committee said that under Rule 245, Mr H.
