MALVERN MATCHES

The scoring of 302 runs in 135 minutes by the young Darfield junior side was the main feature of Saturday’s games in the Malvern Cricket Sub-Association’s competition.

Darfield junior’s high total and sparkling scoring rate in their game against the Darfield senior team was largely attributable to a chanceless innings by D. Gunn, who scored 129 G. Loe played a sound and confident innings for his 54. The side declared with five wickets down.

Gunn was also largely responsible for Darfield seniors being dismissed for only 92 runs With extremely accurate bowling and keen fielding, he was able to dismiss four batsmen for 28 runs. R. Irvine gave the batsmen little relief at the opposite end. taking two for 0.

The leading team in the competition. Greendale, was beaten by South Malvern, which is now second jn the competition The South Malvern batsmen decided the game, for there was little between the bowling and fielding of the sides. R. Stuart was the highest scorer, making 55 of South Malvern’s total of 151.

United batsmen failed against Hororata. and the side was all out for 54. Hororata made 110 and followed up with good bowling by G Dysart J. Rich, and G. Wright, to win the match by 56 runs. Scores were:—

R Irvine two for 0) by 210 runs on the first innings. South Malvern 151 (R. Stuart 55. D. Mitchell 33 retired, O. Stuart 15 retired; F. Adams two for 48, K Shipley three for 16) beat Greendale 89 (G. Ridgen 31 not out, S. Kay 21 O. Stuart two for 41, R. Stuart two for 13, D. Mitchell two for 5, G Wilson two for 17) by 62 runs on the first innings. Hororata 110 (E. Richards 41 W Lawrence 19; G Dysart three for 20 J. Rich two for 23, G. Wright two S r A 3 , United 54 (A. Brigans 34; M. Rothwell five for 14, E. Richards two for 12) by 56 runs on the first innings. Sheffield had the bye.
