EASY WIN FOR OTAGO
Shield Game At Hamilton (New Zealand Press Association) HAMILTON. January 6. Otago was much superior to Northern Districts in the Plunket Shield cricket match which ended ■t Hamilton early on the third day yesterday. Otago thoroughly deserved its win by an innings and 62 runs. The game will be remembered as B. Sutcliffe’s match. He batted beautifully for 152 not out and took five wickets for 102 in Norththem Districts second innings. Northern Districts batting wa« improved in the second innings of 217. N. Puna played a very attractive knock for 62, B. N. Graham hit hard and often for 56. and E. C. Petrie was very sound in compiling 55. On Friday Central Districts meets Auckland at Nelson, •nd on Saturday Wellington begins its match with Northern Districts at Wellington. The most important matches left appear to be those of the last round. On January 18 Central Districts meets Tltago at Dunedin, and Auckland plays Wellington at Wellington. West Coast gained a first innings win over the touring Canterbury colts cncfcet team in the twomatch which ended at Greymouth yesterdav ,
made 64 runs without loss on the first day when rain stopped play. The match was continued in brilliantly fine weather yesterday, but Canterbury slumped badlv and were dismissed for 104 runs. R. Hunt 50 and W. Muncaster 26 were the tnn scorers. W. A. Kennedy the most successful bowler for West Coast took five wickets for 29 runs. West Coast made 119 runs in replv. The opening batsman. D. Hendry, was top scorer with 46. B Irving took five West Coast wickets for 27 run*.
