OTTAWA, December 27.
Colonel Abdel Nasser, the President of Egypt, was the world’s foremost news personality of 1956. according to a poll of the cable editors of Canada’s daily newspapers. The poll, conducted by a news agency, the Canadian Press, showed that the editors considered Colonel Nasser as the year’s mos* newsworthy individual by a wide, margin over Sir Anthony Eden and President Eisenhower Mr Lester Pearson, the Minister for External Affairs, led Canadians on the list for the sixth time in the last seven years. Others mentioned in the world list were the secretary of the Sovjet Union’s Communist Party. Mr . Khrushchev, the SecretaryGeneral of the United Nations. Mr Hammarskjold, the deposed Premier of Hungary, Mr Imre Nagy, the Prime Minister of India. Mr Nehru, arid Elvis Presley, the singer.
Olympic Team Leaves.— D'ost cf Pakistan's Olympic Games team flew out of Melbourne yesterday after being stranded for more than two weeks. They were to have sailed home in the Neptunia, but it was diverted because of the Suez Cansl closure.—Melbourne, December 27.
