MINOR FIRES
A fire in a taxi at the corner of Moorhouse avenue and Montreal street at 12.43 a.m. yesterday was dealt with by an engine from the Central fire station. The wiring of the taxi was slightly damaged. A small rubbish fire under a stairway in the Carlton Hotel, at the corner of Papanui road and Bealey avenue, at 2.56 p.m. yesterday, was attended by engines from the Central and St. Albans stations. No damage was done. A grass fire in Marine parade, opposite the Rawhiti Domain, at North New Brighton, at 7.13 p.m. yesterday was extinguished by an engine from the New Brighton station. There was no damage to property. An oven fire at a house at 82 Hazeldean road, occupied by Mr D. G. Smith, was extinguished by an engine from the Sydenham station at 4.52 p.m. yesterday. No damage was done; An engine from the Woolston station answered a call to a property at 48 Russell street at 10.16 p.m. yesterday, where a paling fence had caught fire. About six feet of the fence was destroyed. The occupier of the property is Mr C. W. Andrews.
