EIGHT CASES OF TUBERCULOSIS

NOTIFICATIONS IN CHRISTCHURCH

Eight cases of tuberculosis were notified in the Christchurch health district for the week ended December 22, according to a list of notifiable diseases issued by the Department of Health.

Of the 15 disease cases notified in the Christchurch District, seven were of pemphigus neonatorum, the staphylococcal skin disease in babies. The Deputy Medical Officer of Health (Dr. H. T. Knights) said on Monday that there was nothing unusual about this number. The disease had become notifiable only in the last year. In the Greymouth district, there were three cases of infective hepatitis and one case of undulant fever. There were no deaths from diseases notified in either the Greymouth or Christchurch districts.
