Sailors Sleep By Ships’ Guns
(Rec. 8 p.m.) PORT SAID. Dec. 22. Gun crews on Royal Navy ships in Port Said harbour slept by their guns during the night after Egyptian guerrillas had opened up in their direction with rifle and machine-gun fire.
Tracer bullets from Port Said s Arab quarter curved into the night
sky. Spent bullets spattered harmlessly into the water around the ships.
Loudspeakers on the naval ships put crews on the alert, warning the anti-riot squads to stand by. Ships closest to the shore closea all shoreside openings.
