INTOXICATED DRIVERS
Sentences Of 21 And 14 Days MAGISTRATE’S WARNING TO OFFENDERS (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. December 23 In the Huntly Magistrate s Court yesterday. Mr S. Hardy, S.M.. sent two men to prison on charges of driving while under the influence of drink. William Saville, aged 36, of Glen Massey, was sentenced to 21 days’ imprisonment and had his driving licence cancelled for two years. James Pepene Te Wera. aged 35 of Ranginri. was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment, and was prohibited from obtaining a licence for two years. On a charge of driving without a licence, he was convicted and ordered to pay costs.
The Magistrate referred to Saville's r J? 3 ?, ease -” ft was, he said, tne fortieth case of intoxicated driving with which he" had dealt since
„ J, e Y ar y Court in which I have sat. said the Magistrate. “I have issued warnings about the apparent inadequacy of penalties imposed as a deterrent.
