Farewell To Rising Fast

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 23. The champion galloper Rising Fast bade farewell to- racing at the Avondale meeting today. He was paraded down the straight, ridden by his jockey G. F Hughes, and returned to the winning post at a strong canter.

There was an impressive ceremony just in front of the members’ stand when a garland of flowers, made up of ‘ the horse’s racing colours, was placed niUnd his neck by Mrs J. B. O’Loghlen, wife of the president of the Avondale Club. Purchased as a yearling for 350 guineas. Rising Fast won 24 races and earned £66.765 in stakes.

At the presentation, the owner (Mr L R. Spring), said he had been approached from all quarters to parade Rising Fast at various race meetings but, after studying the travelling entailed, he had decided to make today’s parade a permanent retirement, leaving the horse sound in wind and limb.
