M.C.C. MATCH AT BENONI

After a frustrating day for both players and spectators, North-eastern Transvaal had lost four wickets for 42 runs at Benoni, a mining town 25 miles from Johannesburg, on the opening day of their match against the M.C.C. / Only 90 minutes' play was possible. A delay in the arrival of the M.C.C. kit from Durban prevented the game from starting before mid-afternoon and then, half an hour from the time for drawing stumps, bad light stopped play for the day. Statham took three wickets for seven runs.
