The Canterbury eleven to play matches at Blenheim. Nelson, and Greymouth has been selected as follows:
R. T Hunt (captain and manager), W. E. Muncaster, W. Bell. B. A. Bolton,- D. J. Reid, R. Copp, B. Irving, A. G. Duckmanton, T. Jones, A. M. Pearce, H. Cullen (Ashburton).
The team will assemble at Newman’s bus depot, 166 Tuam street, next Thursday, at 8.20 a.m. Players are to take own material. Any player not available contact secretary, I. A. Baxter, ’Phone 49-607. There will be a team meeting at Lancaster Park, at No. 1 Stand, at 4.30 p.m. on Christmas Day. —Advt.
M.C.C. MATCH AT BENONI
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) BENONI, December 20. After a frustrating day for both players and spectators, North-eastern Transvaal had lost four wickets for 42 runs at Benoni, a mining town 25 miles from Johannesburg, on the opening day of their match against the M.C.C. / Only 90 minutes' play was possible. A delay in the arrival of the M.C.C. kit from Durban prevented the game from starting before mid-afternoon and then, half an hour from the time for drawing stumps, bad light stopped play for the day. Statham took three wickets for seven runs.
CHRISTCHURCH SUBURBAN ASSOCIATION The under 15 competition will recommence on Saturday, February 2, 1957, and not January 12, as previously advised. Games set down for the earlier date will now be played on February 2. —Advt
Bottles Crush Man.— A man was crushed to death in his tourer car by a load of soft drink bottles in a Sydney suburb today. The man. Arthur Lutton, of Allawah, was driving home after finishing work for the Christmas holidays. Dozens of cases of bottles tore through the canvas hood of his car when it and a truck carrying soft-drinks collided. —Sydney, December 20.
